2012-09-11: Day 7 - Riga
Morning coffee whilst I contemplate what to do with my final few hours in Riga.
Yesterday I went to Jurmala. Superb day for it, gloriously sunny and just strolled around the beach, main pedestrian street and, surprisingly, a forest area with a big tower in it. Even booked a eurostar to Paris via cafe wifi... tech is glorious!
Had a salad, don't remember what was meant to be in it but seemed to be pickled veg, cheese, egg and enough garlic to please the most stereotype conforming of Frenchmen.
Back in Riga I had soup served in a load of bread and later, a kind of Russian ravioli from this canteen which seems to be a backpacker/drunkards staple.
Also tried Black Balsam. It may be an acquired taste and I don't think I'll bother.
I believe I've worked out my travel out of here later. Just need to sort money and a bottle of water and I should be all set. I grant you though that it is a shade annoying to be travelling for 4-5 hours on a bus on what seems to be the hottest day of my holiday.
Oh hell yes, this is more like it! No signs of recent crashes, leg room, air con and a comfy seat. Fair to say I was not looking forward to this journey if it was going to be another, presumably ex-Soviet, death trap.
