Pretty standard day at work but the evening held delights as Gaetano and I were invited out for dinner.

Our hosts have some strong Thai/east Asian influences having done plenty of travelling and the opening drink of Choya, a Japanese plum liqueur, was very pleasant indeed.

A Thai soup opened the meal and was lovely but... the quantity of chillies used was two. The usual quantity used would be eight. The chef had dialled it down for his personal tastes for the rest of us but what I found very nice was a little on the warm side for the others. This raised some concern about the curries to follow.

Two curries were produced, both excellent but the spicier one was at the top end of my comfort zone. Gaetano was surprisingly quiet during this course and gratefully took up the option of some yoghurt. Beer, wine and then… Unicum.

It wasn't forced… I did it by choice. I had to know if it was as bad as I remembered before I could, in good conscious and with malicious intent entice others to do so.

It was.
