2013-11-10: Day 46 - Parental Day 3
We headed north, a 30 min train ride to Szentendre. It's a pretty enough place on a bend in the Danube but it is just complete tourism.
There are lots of places like that in various countries which just become warped and distorted over time to just be quaint places which tourists feel they have to see but the weight of shops and people trying to sell you tat makes it a borderline unpleasant place to be.
Highlight of the day, for me, was the Langos... hadn't had one yet this trip and they're still good. Introduced mother to them and she also approved wholeheartedly.
About the only non-consumable purchasing was done in a Christmas shop which mother lost herself in for a bit. Well, I presume she lost herself as it was bigger than a paper bag and she was in there for about 10 mins.
I didn't really know what we were going to get when we went there so hadn't planned anything for the evening but there was simply no way we could kill sufficient time to eat in Szentendre so we returned to base camp and I did some quick looking about.
Foie Gras Crème Brûlée... seriously, wtf?
Settled on M Restaurant just round the corner if only to see what sort of a place would offer Foie Gras Crème Brûlée... something that I had to read several times before it truly sank in. I like to try new things but really couldn't bring myself to with that.
Some good food, a couple of bottles of wine and I introduced my folks to the other staple of Hungarian drinking culture... Unicum. It was also at this moment that I remembered that my phone could take video and as soon as I work out what the hell to do it shall appear... here.
