2013-06-30: Day 6 - Silves

#2013-06 ~ Portugal (Algarve)  #Lagos  #Portugal  #Silves  #travelblog

Spent last night at Vista Alegre (or something like that) for more decent food and then a lot of wine at Mullens.

Today I'm heading off for Silves and Portimão (didn't make it to Portimão) but currently sat in the shade by the marina waiting for the train.

And now I'm at the train station at Silves waiting for the train back to Lagos. I think it's in 20 mins but the signs of life here are minimal (me and a sleeping dog who I am letting lie) and the posted timetable information I have does not tally with what I believe to be the facts... we shall see.

Silves is a fairly quiet hill town with quaint roads and lanes but a hill town is not what the doctor ordered on a hot day and I have turned from solid to liquid. Decided to take things slow, particularly with the uphill walk back to the station (I did see a bus here when I got back but on the way there not a hint of them).

Went round the castle and saw the churches before spending a very pleasant couple of hours on the tree covered terrace of a cafe relaxing with a band playing what seemed to be a fairly eclectic mix of, I presume, portuguese folk music and some blues.

I have to say, and I know the location is renowned for it and we are adding to it ourselves but the prevalence of English is starting to grate somewhat. I much prefer to not understand what's going on when I'm abroad.
